Slag Cement – GGBFS Cement

Slag Cement Packing: 1.5 MT Jumbo Bags. Maximum strength, low risk of cracking, improved workability, and superior finish are the advantages of Slag Cement.

Portland Slag Cement (PSC) is manufactured by either inter-grinding in the Portland cement clinker, Gypsum & Granulated Slag or blending the Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) with Ordinary Portland Cement by means of mechanical blenders. At Dong Son Cement, we use superior quality slag produced at our steel manufacturing plant, conforming to IS: 12089 standards for producing PSC. It is created with a combination of 45- 50% slag, 45% – 50% clinker, and 3-5% gypsum.

Slag Cement has been voted as the most suitable cement for concrete pavements, mass concrete applications, high performance or high strength concrete, structures and foundations, pre-cast concrete such as pipe & block, concrete exposed to sea water and marine application.

Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) is a by-product from the blast-furnaces used to make iron. These operate at a temperature of about 1,500 degrees centigrade and are fed with a carefully controlled mixture of iron-ore, coke and limestone. This slag is periodically tapped off as a molten liquid and rapidly quenched in large volumes of water. The quenching optimizes the cementitious properties and produces granules similar to coarse sand. This ‘granulated’ slag is then dried and ground to a fine powder.

GGBS is specified for its technical, environmental and aesthetic qualities by engineers, architects and stakeholders. Using GGBS in concrete can extend the lifespan, prevent cracking and lower the embodied energy of a project. GGBS  means a stronger and more durable finished concrete. This means it can be used in the most aggressive environments, such as exposure to chlorides and sulphites, without increasing the cement content, saving you money.
